Daily DuckPrivacy Policy
Daily Duck gives you one small gift a day: a duck and a short, kind message. We built it to need as little of your information as possible. This page explains exactly what that is.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email, phone number, or location.
- Your saved ducks and settings live on your device.
- We collect anonymous usage data to find out what's working and what's broken.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
What stays on your device
Daily Duck remembers, on your device only: which duck and message you were given each day, the ones you saved, whether you've finished the welcome screen, your notification choice and reminder time, and which animal you've chosen. It's tied to a random ID the app creates for itself, not to you personally. If you delete the app or clear your browser's data for Daily Duck, this is erased and can't be recovered by us.
Anonymous usage data we collect
We use an analytics service, PostHog (servers in the United States), to understand how the app is used. It receives:
- What you do in the app, such as opening it, opening a gift, saving or sharing a duck, switching animals, and answering the notification question, along with which duck and message were involved.
- Basic device and browser details (for example, phone model, operating system, screen size, language).
- An approximate location (city or country level) derived from your IP address. We don't receive your precise location.
All of this is linked only to a random identifier, never to your name or contact details. We use it to improve Daily Duck, and for nothing else.
Services that help us run the app
- PostHog processes the usage data described above.
- Apple (the App Store) is asked, from the iPhone app, which version of Daily Duck is current, so we can suggest an update. That request carries only the app's public ID, nothing about you.
- Vercel hosts the web version and may log standard request information, such as your IP address, when you load it.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, Daily Duck schedules a notification on your device for the time you choose. These are generated on your device. We don't need to send anything from a server, and you can turn them off at any time in the app's Settings or in your device's Settings.
Sharing
When you share a duck, it goes through your device's normal share sheet to wherever you choose. We never see where it goes.
Children
Daily Duck isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Optional tips on our website and web version are handled by Ko-fi, a separate service. We never see your payment details, and Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies to anything you share there. The iPhone app has no tip option.
Your choices
- Delete the app, or clear its data in your browser, to remove everything stored on your device.
- Turn off notifications whenever you like.
- To ask about or delete anonymous usage data, contact us at the address below. Because the data isn't tied to your identity, we may need details such as your device and the dates you used the app to find it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
